A commercial that made me smile
And, yes, I realize it has problematic aspects as well.

Man: Is that a Kindle?

Woman: Yes, it's a Kindle (model name that sounds like Paperweight).

Man, holding up larger tablet: I like reading at the beach, but ...

Woman: This is perfect for reading at the beach. And with its built in light, I can read anywhere.

Man, straining to see screen: Done!

Woman: With your book?

Man: No, I just ordered a Kindle. *pause* We should celebrate.

Woman: My husband is bringing me a drink right now.

Man: So's mine!

Both: *look over their shoulders to two more men talking at the bar; the men smile and wave*

Ah! Found it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS3t9reE364

I applaud Amazon and their ad agency.

I like that! And I don't see anything problematic about it; rather, I see it subverting the common trope that any time a man strikes up a conversation with a woman, it's because he's trying to pick her up. To which I say HELL YEAH!

I enjoy that commercial, too. I wonder if the usual suspects have started their furor about it yet.

I saw that on Tumblr.
Two thumbs up!

Like that's going to go over big in Tennessee...

I suspect there is very little overlap between the set of people who read enough to be interested in spending money on a reader, and the set of those who are deeply offended enough by such a commercial to boycott said reader.

I certainly hope you're right. I haven't seen any furor, but then again I probably wouldn't, since I don't frequent online locales that would be angry.

It's good visibility without being overtly problematic, which is a pretty impressive accomplishment for a commercial.

That's awesome! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. :)
