I hate typos in professionally printed materials
On the package for a doorstop: Neutral color blends with any rooms decor'.

How do you even MAKE that mistake?

see, the pedantic Englishwoman in me wants to ask, 'Which one?'

I'm seeing one mistake: the apostrophe that belongs in "room's" has been shifted to the end of "decor". What am I missing?
Gnomegnomentum on January 3rd, 2012 11:03 pm (UTC)
To a pedantic Englishwoman, 'color' is missing a 'u' :-p

That's what I noticed first too.

Took me a minute to see the missing apostrophe. :)

Hey, I was in a courthouse recently and they had a sign that said, "Your on camera."

It looked to have been there for a while. *shudder*

A while back, Dale's Kroger had signs all over the store advertising "pork lion". I swear, I want to start taking pictures of these things and emailing them to the appropriate person with a note saying "Fix this".

Clearly many places in the world do not want to admit that it costs money to copyedit, and do not care that sloppy language makes them look bad.

The pork lion! Step right up to see for yourselves!

BWHAHAHA! Darn, I wish you had posted that one to the Net.

I think I did post it to LJ, but it was a while ago.

It seems that they've compounded a fairly common half-assing of the acute accent (flambé → flambe') with the misapprehension that any French word should have its syllable stress marked this way.

Because apparently apostrophes have become mysterious to most people. They don't put them where they are needed, they put them where they don't belong, they use them randomly... :-(

I'm thinking I should invest in a huge run of Bob the Angry Flower posters. *sigh*

An overabundance of apostrophes.
This discussion of apostrophes makes me want to create a sentence with an overabundance of (correct) apostrophes.

Can anyone improve on "The Bo's'ns' Club's whistle's fipple's clogged."?
