Household reclamation / road to an office
Completed the upper two shelves over my desk today. All the textbooks except math are in a box to go to McKay's; all the class notes were thrown out. I can't see ever needing them again.

Before -- today's before picture is yesterday's after picture

That's impressive. I still have notes from high school I should shred.

Your project is an inspiration. :)

I still have some high school notes and books that I should get rid of too, my husband as well!

Each time I move I throw some out but for some reason I can't get rid of it all at once...I'm not sure why...

Letting go of things is hard, if you have any tendencies at all toward hoarding. There's the "but what if I need it some day?" impulse, and the "oh, this brings back memories" impulse, and the "I worked so hard for this" impulse, and all manner of other strings attached to things.

Another one that I have trouble with personally is, "Okay, I can toss all the notes, but I really ought to keep the notebooks to reuse." No. The notebooks are bent out of shape from sitting slanted on the shelf for 10 years, and the inside covers have absorbed toner from the first pages. They are not reuseable. Throw them out.

For me personally, and I know others' mileage will vary -- working with the support of a ritual has made a huge difference, to the point where the last few days of decluttering have been done freestyle. My mentor says, "Paths are formed by walking on them," and it seems as though I've started to walk a path toward releasing old, stuck energy.

Oh those impulses sound very familiar....

I think for me there's a time factor involved somewhere, for me to be able to throw out particular items that were important in one way or another a certain amount of time has to have passed otherwise I just can't...

It sounds like you're really on a good path for you, and the results you've been showing are definitely proving it :)

I didn't bother shredding any of my notes, since they didn't have anything like my SSN on them.

I wish you success in your own projects, whatever they may be.
