A joke
Little child comes running in after school one day, calling, "Guess what! We learned how to make babies today!"

Parent, thinking that first grade is perhaps a bit young for detailed sex ed, nevertheless keeps cool and asks, "Really? How is that?"

"You drop the 'y' and add 'ies'!"

Have I told the "We don't lick our friends" story?

No . . . .

I work with preschoolers, including once a week in a Head Start classroom. I was chatting with one of the other adults when, out of the corner of my eye, I see a 3 y/o backing away quite suddenly from a seated 5 y/o. It takes the 5 y/o a full three or more seconds to process, turn red, screw up his face in... surprise? horror? disgust? all three? and burst out "he... LICKED ME!" Whereupon the 3 y/o turns a *deep* shade of red and knows beyond doubt he's busted.

I've said a lot of things in my years working with preschoolers. But I'd never before heard myself say "We don't lick our friends at school".

When I tell my friends this story, someone immediately says "But...!" I cut them off and say "*at school.*"
"Oh, okay. Fair enough guideline."

*giggle*

I've got dozens of them.

4 y/o and I coloring with markers. She stops a moment and sniffs her marker*.
I ask, "What does it smell like?"
"Ants."

We color with markers the next week as well. Once again, she stops a moment and sniffs her marker again.
I ask again, "What does it smell like?"
"Blood."
Oh my, I think. I'm almost afraid to ask. "What does blood smell like?"
"Ants."

*some of the kids get sniffy markers at home or at other preschools, where the red smells like cherries, orange smells like oranges, brown smells like cinnamon, etc.

That was great...I didn't see the punchline coming and I giggled out loud. :)
