"Oy, do *you* have the wrong number!"
Apparently, when I stayed at a Westin hotel recently, I was signed up for their preferred member program.

I just got an email advertising their branded AmEx card. Here are some of the details:
  • 10,000 bonus Starpoints after your first purchase
  • 15,000 additional bonus Starpoints when you spend $15,000 in the first 6 months
  • Earn at least 4 Starpoints per eligible dollar spent at participating hotels and resorts
  • Earn 1 Starpoint per eligible dollar spent everywhere else

just sayin', Westin's program is the best hotel program I have encountered. In three months with at least 85 nights of which were spent at one of their hotels, I earned enough points for a four night stay for two at Las Brisas in Acapulco (a resort which has been on my personal bucket list since I was around 8 years old)

If one travels regularly or frequently on business, this would be a good deal. However, I typically spend fewer than 10 nights a year in hotels, and of those, probably six are in conference hotels I did not select. So I'm not really a good candidate for hotel or airline rewards programs.

Did you have a good time at Las Brisas?

the interesting question
is what is the value of a starpoint?

Checking Amazon - the value seems to be about 1 US cent.

Getting 4 nights for 85 turns out to be about 4.7 percent. ( However for a good customer they can afford to 'give' at cost every once in a while so their actual cost may be a lot less )

Both are well into customary discounts for good customers. ( and in some places the discount one gets by paying cash instead of Credit Card )
