Wow
Stories like this one (link to a Customers_Suck post) make me feel much less guilty about ordering "a large decaf with room for cream, please" at coffee shops.

(I have had people -- not baristas, but random people -- tell me that if all I'm getting is plain decaf, I shouldn't bother going to a coffee shop. Which is all well and good, but if I'm at the bookstore and waiting for Dale, for example, I want to get something to drink while I read the book I bought. And I like the taste of coffee. Others' mileage varies.) (These people are probably related to the woman I posted about several years ago, who gave me grief about ordering meatloaf at a restaurant because it's so easy to make at home. Yes, it is, but when I saw meatloaf on the menu, my tastebuds said "That. Now.".)

Re: your decision
I figure that there are always reasons that you might not be aware of. For example, maybe they had a really great coupon for the chicken place. Or maybe they'd arranged to meet at the chicken place and sat down to eat chicken but then when they saw the pizza on the menu, they decided that they wanted pizza, and getting up and going to the pizza place didn't seem worth it. Or... maybe they *like* the pizza at the chicken place.

There's a chicken chain here (I dunno where you live, "here" is Canada for me) called Swiss Chalet. When I used to eat meat, I'd go there and get their chicken on a kaiser sandwich, and it was pretty darned good. However, one day I was there with people and wanted to have a burger, so I got their cheeseburger, and it was *amazingly* tasty. So from them on, I ordinarily ordered the cheeseburger. You wouldn't believe the grief I got for that, mostly because people supposed that at a place that specializes in chicken, the cheeseburger is "likely" not very good. Pretty much everyone I convinced to try it agreed that it was amazing and started ordering it also, but I managed to convince surprisingly few people to try it.

Even if one has had the errant item and decided that it's terrible, there's also taste to account for. Maybe the people ordering really like frozen nuked pizza, and the pizza at the chicken place is thus really good pizza *for them*.

Re: your decision
Swiss Chalet makes burgers? Was it a Harvey's burger?

Re: your decision
Yep. They make delicious burgers. And no, they're not Harvey's burgers, oddly enough.

They also make veggie burgers (which are also very different than Harvey's burgers).

The Swiss Chalet veggie burger is definitely much better than the Harvey's burger. The meat burgers are hard to compare because they're very different beasts.
