Backpacks for the homeless

Potential Supplies to Use in Backpacks for the Homeless
(Note: If you assemble backpacks for females, place masking tape on the backpack handles.)

Clothing:

  • sweat shirts, used (depending on the season)
  • t-shirts, used (especially spring and summer)
  • white socks (2 pair per backpack)


Food:

  • beef jerky
  • cereal bars, energy bars (2 per backpack)
  • condiments, individual packets (e.g., ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper that you get from the drive-thru and you normally throw away)
  • cookies, small packs
  • crackers with peanut butter or cheese, individual packs (2 - 3 packs per backpack)
  • food with pop top cans, small cans (e.g., beanie weenies, Vienna sausage, fruit, ravioli, etc)
  • instant coffee
  • raisins


Hygiene:

  • comb
  • deodorant (trial size)
  • feminine hygiene products (5 to 7 napkins in a Ziploc bag)
  • fingernail clipper
  • fingernail file
  • foot powder
  • make-up for the ladies
  • razors, disposable (2 to 3 per backpack)
  • shampoo (trial size, hotel complimentary items)
  • soap (trial size)
  • toothbrush
  • toothpaste (trial size)


Other:

  • baby wipes, small pack
  • candles
  • citronella candle
  • flashlight & batteries
  • grocery bags, plastic
  • hand mirror, small
  • matches
  • plasticware (e.g., spoons, forks, knives)
  • rain poncho
  • sleeping bags, old
