Argh. Fox News. Idiots. But I repeat myself.
Seen on Fox News last night (to be, um, fair, they were quoting from a sign at a rally protesting health care reform): "The American taxpayers are the Jews to Obama's ovens".

(To answer the question, "Well, why were you watching Fox News in the first place?", the fitness center I attend recently switched all the televisions from CNN to Fox, and I can't look down at the elliptical's display panel all the time or my neck gets stiff.)

Maybe you can buy one of those TV zapper gadgets?

Don't tempt me.

And they can get away with that?!!?
Janet Miles, CAP-OM: no-hatejanetmiles on September 25th, 2009 01:21 pm (UTC)
Which "they"? The protesters or the tv station? If the former, well, "It's my First Amendment right to free speech!" If the latter, well, "We're just reporting the news."

It's not illegal, in the US.

Bet you ten bucks it was a gentile carrying that sign.

No takers here.

There's no reason you should have to put up with that.
Exercise is supposed to raise your heart rate, not your blood pressure.

I literally have no words for that.
Janet Miles, CAP-OM: no-hatejanetmiles on September 25th, 2009 04:58 pm (UTC)
My initial, instinctive reaction was, "WHAT THE HELL?!?" but profanity isn't allowed in the facility, and so it turned into an inarticulate strangled shriek.

What? "No swearing in the gym"??

Wouldn't work over here, that.
piranha @ dreamwidthpir_anha on September 25th, 2009 03:27 pm (UTC)
you can't do anything about the hate-mongering signs, nor about faux news' fairly imbalanced reportage, but surely you can complain to the fitness center? tell them it's not healthy to watch faux news.
Janet Miles, CAP-OMjanetmiles on September 25th, 2009 04:55 pm (UTC)
It actually didn't occur to me to complain, but I'll ask about it this evening.
A Wandering Hobbitredbird on September 25th, 2009 05:08 pm (UTC)
What I've done in that situation is find someone and say "can you switch back to music?" but my gym has some kind of in-house music video feed as well as access to fox, cnn, sports, local news, game shows, etc.

Oh dear gods preserve us.

We need an anti-idiocy law. It should be legal to hunt down people who are that clueless

As I said to Jim Hetley a bit earlier, "Don't tempt me."

All I can say is that it's too bad that Godwin's Law is ordinarily applied only in online discourse! (And it strikes me as a little irresponsible to me that the news outlets, even Fox, -aren't- spinning it thus: "look how silly these people are being!")
margdean56margdean56 on September 25th, 2009 08:58 pm (UTC)
I've been thinking that too! Re Godwin's Law, I mean.

'Twere it me, that would be sufficient grounds for resigning my membership on grounds of "hostile environment," and telling the manager/owner precisely that.

Wow. That is disgusting.
The Djao'Mor'Terra Collective: cognitive hazardfayanora on September 26th, 2009 09:30 am (UTC)
They only play Fox "News" now? I think you should sue them for creating an environment that is hostile and deadly to your brain cells. You'd stand a good chance of winning, I think.

Fixed News
That sucks a big one, for sure. It's not like you can read a book while working out.

Of course, knowing where your fitness center is, it is no surprise that they switched to Fixed Noise.

One of the multitude of reasons why I am happy living where I am now...though I do miss my peeps in Knoxvegas.

Re: Fixed News
It's probably worse than you think -- it's the Ladies' Total Fitness center in Foothills Mall.

Oddly, some women do manage to read a magazine while on the elliptical, but I haven't been able to make that work.

Re: Fixed News
Oh, right. Maryville. *shudder* Might I suggest you bring an Ipod (if you have one that is.) Personally, I'd rather gouge out me eyes with a spoon than watch Fox News.

My problem with Fox News is that it is Yellow Journalism at best.
