Taken care of [Was: Discrimination alert: Tim Horton's supporting an anti-LGBT event]
Flyer for event

The National Organization for Marriage is campaigning across the USA opposing initiatives and working to repeal existing laws that would allow same-sex couples to marry. Tim Horton's corporate policy does allow independent franchises to decide what events they will sponsor; however, corporate policies also state that they do not sponsor events "representing religious groups [or] political affiliates".

Change.org is hosting a petition encouraging Tim Horton's to reconsider this sponsorship.

Thanks to epi_lj for the information.

ETA: Tim Horton's has withdrawn sponsorship, citing the "no political or religious groups" clause. Well done! (Note also the new mood.)

And thanks to everyone who signed the petition. Community activism is good.

They'd get more sigs if they'd make it an international form. :( Tim's is Canadian and I can't imagine them sponsoring such an event here.

Apparently the specific TH that's sponsoring the event is in Rhode Island. I didn't realize the form was unusable outside the US.

Do you want to use my zip code? 37803 (Maryville, TN)

The site now has this note, although I don't see how it works (since they ask for ZIP code, not city/state):

UPDATE: For Canadian readers interested in signing the petition, please include both your city and province name in the field for "City," and select "CA" from the list of states. For our petition software, "CA" can act as bothCalifornia and Canada. This should allow Canadian readers to sign the petition to change.org. Thanks!

Yay! Thank you. And I checked the petition -- the sidebar has now changed to ask for city/state (and I'm guessing ZIP code can be left blank).

I find it interesting they call themselves the National Organization FOR Marriage...

They lie like rugs, seems to me.

From their point of view, of course, they are FOR marriage. A very limited definition of marriage. That suits them. And to hell with anyone else.
