Um. Ew? (Your mileage may vary)
I've heard about Luna Bars from two sources. One source thinks they're wonderful, the other said something to the effect of "most disgusting thing I ever put in my mouth". While I'm not that vehement about it, I'm definitely over on the "ick" side. The smell of the vitamins is way too strong for my liking, I'm afraid.

For me, the flavor makes a huge difference - some of them are fine, some of them I can't stand.

(For what it's worth, the ones I tend to fall back on are the peppermint mint one, and the peanut butter and chocolate one - both of which tend to obscure the vitamin smell.)

I keep them for the "I need to eat something right now" times, when the 'right now' involves having something that can live in my bag for months at a time. I don't treat them like a real meal.

I opened one of the lemon zest bars (someone brought a bunch of them to the office and put them on the communal food table), and was overwhelmed by the smell. I went ahead and tasted a bit, and well, I don't think I'll be having any more of them.

Some of them are pretty good, but most flavors are icky.

Lemon Zest is the only one I've tried, and for me it falls firmly into ick.

It sounds icky.

If it's anything like Clif Bars then you also have to be in the right "need"; some days I can eat a Clif Bar like it's the most wonderful thing in the world, other days it's just chewy and disgusting. (And there's only, really, 2 flavours I like). I've heard Tori say similar about the Luna Bars; if your body needs what's in the bar then it'll be wonderful, otherwise it's disgusting.

So it's like a solid version of GatorAde ("if it tastes good, you're still dehydrated and need to drink more")?

I consider most things of that nature to be snake oil. However, if you can find something called Wonder Bars (we find them occasionally at CostCo), they are worth the money; they taste good and keep for a long time, and we were very glad we had a batch when Ike hit.

I like, for example, the SlimFast meal bars, and thought that the Luna Bar might be similar, but in different flavors. And, well, I know one person who thinks they're really wonderful, so I figured I might as well try one.

That's why the girls get Gummi-Vites. They're the only multi-vitamins that don't smell like vitamins.

I don't mind swallowing a vitamin tablet, but I certainly did not want to chew one up. Bleah.

I like them, never got a "vitamin smell" off them. Now I find them a little too sweet.

Aha! I knew that someone's mileage would vary! :-)

Okay, I'd never heard of them so I went googling. In the ingredients list there's this lovely bit of weasel-wordery -- organic evaporated cane juice. In other words -- SUGAR.

I just assume that bars of that sort have sugar, because they're sweet.
