As heard on Iron Chef America
Chairman: So, Chef Kinch, you come to us from [the city of] Los Gatos, which means "the cats." How will you fare in Kitchen Stadium when they "let the dogs out"?

Challenger: *smiles* The cats to which they refer -- are mountain lions.

Much to my enjoyment, he beat Bobby Flay by a huge margin: 52 to 42 (out of 60 possible).

I can say about Bobby Flay what Marianne Moore said about Poetry --

"I, too, dislike it..."

Ooo, maybe I'll watch that episode after all, if Bobby Flay gets beaten!

Hailing from the SF Bay Area (though, alas, long absent) myself, I can attest that though the cats that guard the gate to the area may look somewhat cuddly and domestic, their size denotes their relation to the cougar. Legends of encounters with them tend to support this as well.

Yes, there are legends of unwary mischief makers being discliplined by them and innocents being kept safe.

Hmm - let's see if this works. I used to live in Cupertino (Monte Vista actually) and would drive all over those hills.

Actually, though, they look more like lynxes than cougars. Which would not be a cat to mess with either, as far as that goes.

The fact that whoever writes the scripts thought the Chairman's line was funny is yet another reason why I don't watch ICA... and deeply, deeply miss the Japanese original.

(The main reason, of course, is that I just can't stand Alton Brown, who, were he a meal, would be a luncheon-loaf sandwich on white bread with mayonnaise, mashed potatoes without butter on the side, and vanilla-flavored mellorine for dessert...)

Speaking of food...
If you ever actually find yourself in Los Gatos, be sure to eat at T-Bird's Pizza.
