Question about kashruth
Are brand-new, just-purchased dishes (pots, pans, storage containers, etc.) considered to be kosher out of the box, or do they have to be koshered by the purchaser / recipient?

What if they are purchased, taken into a non-kosher home, and wrapped and mailed to a secondary recipient without being taken out of the box in which they were packaged?

Brand-new? Never taken out of the box? No problem at all for the recipient, and they would be usable. Some folks might take an additional step, depending on their level of observance and the materials of the utensils, but that's only the concern of the recipient, and it's not something that makes them kosher or not, or dependent upon the giver (that is, they'd do if they purchased the utensils themselves.)

Interesting question! I wouldn't have thought to wonder.
