A great service experience
Aveda, the Shops at Western Plaza, Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

"Please don't laugh at me," I asked the woman behind the counter. "I almost never wear makeup, I don't keep makeup at work, and I just got a call asking me to be interviewed on television in five hours. Help?" (This was for UCW, for our rally on Wednesday.)

And Jackie, one of the makeup artists, made me up beautifully and at no charge. The folks who saw me on TV said I looked good (and sounded good), and the folks at my IAAP meeting this evening all complimented me and (predictably) said I should wear makeup more often.

That is faboo!
Is there a clip online anywhere? I think you are stunning without makeup but I would like to compare and contrast.

Not seeing it on the WBIR site, but if I can track it down, I'll post a pointer.

Very cool, thank you.

One of my co-workers taped it and is digitizing it to a DVD for me, so I'll see about trying to put it somewhere.

I'm glad it worked out for you! My sister had someone at an upscale salon do her up for her boyfriend's Christmas party one year (he worked for Mercedes, so it was a big to-do) and she left the place looking like a French whore. Which there is definitely a time and a place for, but perhaps not the regional Mercedes company Christmas party.
Yay on all the compliments!

Well, I did tell her it was for TV and should probably be matte rather than shiny or glittery, that I prefer muted earth tones, and that I don't like a lot of eye-liner because it makes me feel like a raccoon.

Go, you! What was it like, being interviewed on TV?

Remarkably like having a conversation with someone who was lobbing me scripted questions :-). As Dale put it, "This isn't 60 Minutes; they want you to look good."

Detailed version: someone called me around noon and asked if I'd be on the show at 5:30. I said yes, and he asked me a few questions about the rally and about UCW.

I arrived a few minutes before 5:00, and waited in the lobby for about 15 minutes. An excessively perky young woman then walked me back to the studio area. :-)

The two anchors, Robin Wilhoit and John Becker, finished their segment and came over to introduce themselves. I admitted to being nervous. Wilhoit had to go do something in another area, so Becker asked me more questions about UCW and the rally, and then he went off to do stuff.

A tech directed me to the "Sports Seat" and hooked up a lapel mic.

Becker came back, reminded me to talk to him rather than the camera, waited for the prompter to say "Next up, concerns about budget cuts at UT," and introduced me. He then asked me a few of the questions we'd discussed. I did get the chance to give our three major talking points: The cuts are hurting quality, the cuts are hurting people, and Nashville can stop the cuts.

And then it was all over, the tech unhooked me, Becker shook my hand and took my business card, and I left.

I do too, but holy cow the prices! On the other hand, the makeup didn't make me feel like my face was coated in peanut butter. (Not that I've ever actually coated my face in peanut butter, but you get the idea.)
