CEPT (not directly related to me)
Please keep the members and guests of Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in your thoughts and prayers. I just learned that there was a shooting there this morning. Jim Adkisson of Powell, Tennessee, is being held on $1 million bond after walking into the church during a children's production of the play Annie and taking two shots with a shotgun. One of the congregation's ushers is dead and eight other adults were injured. Of the eight, five are reported to be in critical condition and one in serious condition; the other two were treated and released.

Reports so far are that Adkisson had no connection with TVUUC and had never been there before.

Greg McKendry, the usher who was killed, was reported to have interposed himself between Adkisson and the congregation. May he rest in peace, and may all who loved him be comforted.

I am not a member of TVUUC, but it's close to where I work and I know a number of the members. One of my coworkers was there today with his wife and daughter, who was performing in the play. They have reported that they are all uninjured.

I'm so deeply horrified I just don't even know what to do.

I'm considering attending the vigil being held at one of the NOLA UU churches (I'm here for the IAAP convention).

I'm just not sure if it would be appropriate, given that I'm not a member of TVUUC.

Go. Another loving, caring person is never out of place.
