Yesterday's weird dreams
In the dream, I was sent back in time to head off World War II by diverting Adolf Hitler's energy and charisma into something other than politics.

However, the machine's calibration was off and I ended up arriving toward the end of WWI. I decided that rather than return to my starting time and try again, the best thing to do would be to try and get the rest of Europe to be less punitive toward Germany (and, thus, ideally not set the stage for the resurgence of German nationalism that contributed to WWII).

I have no idea why I thought, in the dream, that I had that kind of power!

Because you knew exactly who to bet on to win all major sporting events. You built up a huge nest egg, averted the Great Depression by wise use of your money. Then parlaying that into political power became the first female appointee to the "League of Nations". Using that as a pulpit for world peace you manage to change the course of history averting WWII. Sadly this had the secondary effect of slowing down technological progress and altering the time stream significantly. You live to the ripe old age of 102 in the year 2020 just in time to see earth conquered by alien invasion and unable to stop them with biplanes and artillery.

You knew you had that kind of power because you'd been sent, of course. Why would they send you if you couldn't do it? :)

Oh, good point!
