Misleading, not to mention suggestive, headline
"Cocks Bring Vols to Knees"

(The UT Vols played basketball against the South Carolina Gamecocks. If the Vols had lost, the headline might have made more sense, but UT won, so now I'm just all manner of confused.)

Heh. Yeah, I bet.

You sure that wasn't a "Daily Beacon" exclusive postgame piece from the locker room? :)

Squad Helps Dog Bite Victim
Used Car Salesman Charged With Battery.

And other headlines.

You just know they were written that way on purpose. *G*

Re: Squad Helps Dog Bite Victim
Oh, I know. I'm just, as I say, puzzled: it would have been more defensible if the Vols had lost. But hey, it's Friday, anything for a giggle.

Life is so much more fun when one has a dirty mind...

Oh, yes.

That was the headline in the Beacon? LOL...

On the back page, not the front page, but yeah.
LeiaCatleiacat on March 7th, 2009 12:58 am (UTC)
Do I fail at dirty mind because I can't figure out what a "vol" could possibly be?
Janet Miles, CAP-OMjanetmiles on March 7th, 2009 01:38 am (UTC)
No, not all! "Vols" is the nickname for the University of Tennessee sports teams, the UT Volunteers (the women, of course, are the Lady Vols. Sigh). And I'm sorry; I'm so used to it that I forgot to spell it out.
LeiaCatleiacat on March 7th, 2009 02:22 am (UTC)
Oh, that's ok, I figured it'd theoretically be the name of the team (although I didn't think it'd be quite as atrocious as "volunteers"). I just could not think of a way in which it's pervertable.

It was the part about cocks and being brought to knees that I found suggestive.

Tennessee is known as the Volunteer State, so the teams at the main campus of the state university are the Volunteers. (At the Chattanooga campus, they're the Moccasins, at Martin the Skyhawks, and the Health Sciences campus and the Space Institute don't appear to have intercollegiate athletics.)

Good thing I wasn't drinking when I read that!

I'm sure the editor in charge of the sports page had a *wonderful* time with that.
